Quality Management Plan Template

  • identifies the work performance information that will be captured and specifies the process for initiating requests for change;
  • includes places for noting assumptions, issues, and risks that are identified while planning quality management;
  • provides a section for including relevant project documents for approval; and
  • includes a section for quality management plan approval.

Who Creates the Quality Management Plan?

The Project Manager is responsible for developing the Quality Management Plan. Effective planning accounts for the input of various project team members, other stakeholders, and the project sponsor.

What Are the Inputs?

There are numerous inputs to the development of a Quality Management Plan, including the project charter, the requirements management plan, the risk management plan, the stakeholder engagement plan, and the scope baseline. Inputs also include various project documents like the assumptions log, requirements documentation, the risk register, and more.

How Detailed Should the Quality Management Plan Be?

The structure of the Quality Management Plan varies greatly, depending on project needs. For some projects, the Quality Management Plan is developed in great detail and becomes formally approved before the start of project work.

For other projects, this highly detailed and rigid approach to project planning would be disastrous. In these situations, the Quality Management Plan is developed more loosely and from a high-level perspective. As the project progresses, the Quality Management Plan may become more elaborate. It’s the project manager’s responsibility to consider all factors that affect the project and develop a plan that fits.
