This Basis of Resource Estimates template is a project document that is developed to support a wide range of project types and sizes.  Generally, it provides resource estimates, identifies how the estimates are performed, and provides for the inclusion of supporting documentation. More specifically, our template:

  • begins with a section that captures relevant project information;
  • provides sections for documenting activity and task information; (E.g., it captures the task ID, task title, task description, and an estimated resource description)
  • prompts the project manager to identify the estimating technique that was used and it provides a section for including supporting data; and
  • includes a section for estimating all activity resources by category.

Who Creates the Basis of Resource Estimates?

 The Project Manager is responsible for estimating project resources. In so doing, he or she accounts for the input of others.

What Are the Inputs?

The inputs to the Basis of Resource Estimates include historical information, the scope management plan, the resource management plan, the schedule management plan, experience and expertise of the project manager, and supporting data.
